Pollution In Oakland

Oakland has good air quality. A common air pollutant in Oakland is particulate matter or PM. PM is the solid or liquid particles found in the air emitted by gas natural or manmade sources. Sometimes PM are formed when other pollutants react with the air. The PM in Oakland are “fine” particles because they are 2.5 micrometers or less. They pose a bigger threat to health than the other larger particles because it is easier for them to accumulate inside a person. Combustion is considered a PM. More the most prevalent pollutant has been Ozone. Ozone while being a protective gas recently has become a prevalent pollution in Oakland close the ground but in harmless concentrations as the air quality is still considered good. Ozone’s harmful effects include irritating the respiratory system, weakening the immune system and endangering the health of those with asthma or other related issues and children. Ozone is more common when the weather gets hotter because it is formed through a chemical reaction with pollutants emitted by cars, power plants and other. Long term exposure to ozone has been shown to permanently damage the lungs.
